Yahoo history

Yahoo was launched by two electrical engineers Jerry Yang and David Filo in January 1994. Initially, yahoo launched under the name “Jerry and David’s guide to the World Wide Web”. In March 1994, the founders changed the name of the website from “Jerry and David’s guide to the World Wide Web” to Yahoo.

Yahoo’s original purpose

At first, the motive behind the launch of Yahoo was to allow users to surf through the internet. In 1995, the yahoo introduced its search engine. Yahoo founders allowed its users to access free yahoo email in 1997. For the first time in history, Yahoo offered unlimited email storage in 2007.

Now the services provided by Yahoo are Yahoo Maps, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Groups, Sponsored Search, Local Advertising, Yahoo Travel and Yahoo Messenger.

Yahoo mobile

Yahoo mobile services include email, instant messaging, mobile blogging, entertainment, ring tones, information services, searches and alerts.

Yahoo also offers online selling services which allow its users to purchase online.

Microsoft bids $44.6 billion to buy Yahoo

In February 2008, Microsoft bids $44.6 billion to buy Yahoo, but Yahoo refused the offer to retain the company’s value.

Yahoo refused to buy Google

In 2002, Yahoo refused to buy Google for $3 million because of the overvalue of money.
