The film industry is one of the sectors most affected by this year’s health crisis. A few days ago, Emmanuel Macron announced that the confinement would be lifted on December 15, but would be replaced by a curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Closed since October 30, 2020, cinemas may also reopen from that date.
A reopening of cinemas still uncertain
The turnover of cinemas across France is currently at its lowest. To help French operators and distributors to go up the slope, the public will therefore be allowed to go out after 9 p.m. on presentation of a cinema ticket from the end of confinement. Discussions even took place to establish a white week, devoted to the return of films whose exploitation had been interrupted. However, this second measure has not been formalized so far.
The reopening of the rooms is scheduled for December 15, provided that the health objectives are met. Some distributors have therefore preferred to shift their outputs in order to take no risk. The list of films to see after confinement therefore extends until January 2021.
