Tirath Singh Rawat is an Indian politician and the incumbent CM of Uttarakhand. He is also a member of the Lok Sabha from the Garhwal constituency of Uttarakhand.

Tirath Singh Rawat was born on Thursday, 9 April 1964 (age 56 years; as of 2020) in Sinro village, located in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. His zodiac sign is Aries. He earned a Master’s degree in Sociology from Garhwal’s Birla College (affiliated with Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University) in 1992. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in journalism.

Career
Student Politics
During his college days, Rawat became active in student politics by joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (the student wing of the Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh). During his career in student politics, he became the organisational secretary of ABVP’s Uttarakhand state unit and was later chosen as the national secretary of ABVP. He was also elected as the president of the student union at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in 1992.
Mainstream Politics
Rawat was elected as the Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elected in 1997. Before that, he was state vice president of Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He served on the position of the first Education Minister of Uttarakhand from 2000 to 2002. In 2007, he was appointed as BJP’s state secretary of Uttarakhand. He contested his first electoral election in 2012 and was elected as a legislative assembly member (MLA) from the Chaubattakhal constituency. He was appointed as Uttarakhand state chief of BJP in 2013. In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha election for the first time and was subsequently elected as the Member Of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from the Garhwal constituency. In March 2021, he replaced Trivendra Singh Rawat (8th CM of Uttarakhand) and become the 9th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

- He served as a pracharak (promoter) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 1983 to 1988.
- He went to jail during the Ram Temple movement in the early 90s and was behind the bars for two months.
