The government of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has recently decided to convert the ancestral houses of Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar into a museum. Both the stars have connections to the big city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar. However, very few people know that Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor’s family have a close association with Pakistan. Book of madhu jain Kapurus: The First Family of Indian Cinema According to Dilip Kumar’s father Sarwar Khan was a good friend of Raj Kapoor’s father Prithviraj Kapoor and grandfather Bashesarnath. However, there was a big difference in their hobbies. On one hand, Prithviraj Kapoor was interested in cinema, while Sarwar Khan considered it wrong. Even while acting, he used to make fun of Prithviraj and called him ‘son of Kanjar’.

However an interesting incident happened when Dilip Kumar’s movie ‘Jowar Bhata’ was released. Even before appearing in this film, Dilip Kumar kept this new name while hiding his real name Yusuf Khan. One of the reasons for this was that the father did not get to know about his work in films. Dilip Kumar himself once told that his father considered acting worse than dying. But when he saw a poster of Dilip Kumar’s film Jowar Bhata, he said that in it an actor looks like his son.

On this, Raj Kapoor’s grandfather Bashesarnath said to him, ‘It is not Yusuf, it is Yusuf. Now you too have become Kanjar da Putr. Sarwar Khan was very angry with Dilip Kumar for this, but in the end he too had to bow to his son’s stubbornness. Please tell that he often used to tell Raj Kapoor’s grandfather Bashesarnath that you mustache, your children work in films and you are no longer able to walk with a mustache. Interestingly, not only Raj Kapoor’s father Prithviraj Kapoor but his grandfather also acted in films. His grandfather Basesharanath was seen in Raj Kapoor’s movie ‘Awara’.
