Disney continues to bet on the nostalgia card. Sean Bailey, the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, has formalized the return of Whoopi Goldberg in the third installment of Sister Act. Thus, Sister Marie-Clarence will be back on the screen, almost thirty years after the film Sister Act 2.
Fans of the franchise will especially be delighted to know that Whoopi Goldberg will be back in the film’s cast to reprise his iconic role as Dolores Van Cartier. On the other hand, it is not yet known if the other members of the cast of the first two films dating from 1992 and 1994 will be in the game. In any case, the fans are not against the return of certain characters like Sister Marie-Robert (Wendy Makkena), Sister Marie-Patrick (Kathy Najimy) or even Sister Superior (Maggie Smith).
It should be noted that Whoopi Goldberg brought up the idea of this third opus for a few years, without Disney confirming its existence. Some rumors suggested a reboot. However, the presence of the actress within the cast confirms that it will be a direct sequel to the first two films. For now, we do not yet know his plot. However, it shouldn’t take long for Disney to give us more details as production progresses.
The film will not be shown in theaters. It will be broadcast exclusively on the Disney + video streaming platform. Its release date has not yet been revealed by the production studio.
