Despite the immense critical and public success of his latest music, The Weeknd was “forgotten” from the list of nominees for the next Grammy Award. A pill that goes wrong.

According to an article Paris Match France of SL

Tuesday, November 24, 2020, the Grammy Awards Academy revealed its list of nominees for the next awards ceremony to be held on January 31, 2021. Several female artists top the nominations, such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion or Billie Eilish. On the side of male artists, Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Roddy Ricch will be in the running.

But some fan-favorite artists, approached for a few nominations due to the immense success of their latest album, have been “snubbed”. This is the case with The Weeknd and his After Hours. One of the singles, “Blinding Lights”, spent more than 40 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, a nice performance.

On Twitter, the 30-year-old Canadian artist was quick to voice his displeasure, saying the Grammy Academy was “corrupt” and lacking in transparency.

Following this tweet, one of the managers of the Grammy Awards reacted to Variety, explaining that it was difficult to assign nominations to all artists. “You know, the decision is really up to the voting body. (…) We go through an arduous and thoughtful process to find out who really are the deserving candidates for the year” , did he declare.

According to TMZ, the reason for the absence of The Weeknd in the nominees list would be quite different. The academy of Grammy Awards would have proposed to Abel Tesfaye, of his real name, to assure a performance during the evening. But the artist was also committed to singing at the next Super Bowl, which will be held a few days after the Grammys, on February 7. The singer wanted to ensure both performances, but the Grammy would have given him an ultimatum: it would be one or the other. “The two sides had finally come to an agreement where Abel could do both, but not without the negotiations becoming very difficult. Our sources say Abel’s decision to perform at the Super Bowl cost him Grammy nominations as the heated discussions that took place pissed off Grammy officials»Says TMZ.

The Weeknd has already won three Grammy Awards during his career, notably in the “best contemporary urban album” category: he had received two in 2016 for his opus Beauty Behind The Madness, and a last in 2018 for his album Starboy.
