Macron and Kurz to discuss security issues after terrorist attacks in France and Austria | News from Germany about Europe | DW

French President Emmanuel Macron will hold talks in Paris with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, during which it is planned to discuss European security issues. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 10, the Elysee Palace announced on November 9.

Following the talks, Macron and Kurz will join a conference call with leaders from Germany and the European Commission, among others.





In recent weeks, Islamist attacks have been carried out in both countries. So, on October 16, 18-year-old Chechen Abdullah A., born in Moscow, shouted “Allahu akbar!” attacked with a knife in the suburbs of Paris on the teacher of history and geography Samuel Pati, killed and beheaded him. In a lesson on freedom of speech, Pati showed his disciples the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, published in Charlie Hebdo magazine.

A man with a knife broke into the Catholic Basilica of Notre Dame in Nice on October 29 and attacked visitors. Three people were killed and six more were injured. The malefactor who shouted “Allahu akbar!” Was shot and wounded during the arrest.

On November 2, a 20-year-old native of North Macedonia, who also has an Austrian passport, Kuytim F. started shooting in the center of Vienna. As a result, two men and two women died, including one German citizen. 22 people were injured. The police shot the criminal on the spot. The Islamic State terrorist group, banned in many countries, claimed responsibility for the attack.
