Eindhoven (dpa) – Mario Götze could make his debut at the Dutch top club PSV Eindhoven on October 18.
The 28-year-old soccer world champion from 2014 may be part of the squad for the away game against PEC Zwolle, said Eindhoven coach Roger Schmidt. However, the coach of the Eredivisie’s runners-up has not yet made a decision.
“Mario is not yet one hundred percent fit, that’s logical,” said Schmidt. But after he left Borussia Dortmund, he continued to train hard. “Mario looks fit,” said Schmidt. But he still lacks match practice. In the Netherlands, considerations had previously been made as to whether the former Bayern and BVB professional, who had been practically unemployed since July, was already physically fully up to date. It is speculated whether Götze might be sent onto the lawn as a joker in Zwolle.
Gotze has received a two-year contract with PSV. The Dortmunders had not extended his contract. In the past season he only made 15 appearances, mostly as a substitute. In the PSV team, Götze’s commitment was accepted with joy, said Schmidt, according to the Dutch news agency ANP. “I’ve had a lot of positive reactions.”
