Else Blangsted, who fled Nazi Germany as a teen believing she had given delivery to a stillborn youngster, then regularly constructed a profession as a number one music editor on Hollywood movies, died on May 1 in Los Angeles. She was 99.

Else Siegel was born on May 22, 1920, in Würzburg, Germany. Her father, Siegmund, was a horse dealer, and her mom, Lilly (Oppenheimer) Siegel, was a homemaker, with whom Else had a tough relationship. In a profile in The New Yorker in 1988, she stated her mom subjected her to “a lifetime of misdemeanors, punishments and an absence of forgiveness.”

When she was 15, she started relationship Eric Seelig, then, 24, and shortly after grew to become pregnant. She advised nobody. Soon after, with the Nuremberg Laws proscribing the place Jews like her may attend faculty, her household dispatched her to a Jewish boarding faculty in Switzerland. It was September of 1936.

By January 1937, when she was seven months pregnant, the tightness of her corset was inflicting her to faint. Desperate and ashamed, she tried to kill herself by mendacity on a snowy hill close to the college, hoping to freeze to dying.

She was discovered hours later, her decrease legs frostbitten. Her secret was out.
