Born Ellen Page, Elliot Page announced to be transgender through a very touching message on social networks.

The star of Juno, Inception, Umbrella Academy or Hard candy, Elliot Page, posted a message on social media to announce her trans coming out. The 33-year-old actor known until then as Ellen Page has announced that his new first name is Elliot. He defines himself as a transgender and non-binary person, so that “Her gender identity is neither male nor female” and has been very involved in the fight for the rights of LGBT people for several years.

“I feel lucky to write this. To be here. To have arrived at this point in my life. I am immensely grateful to all of the amazing people who have accompanied me. I have been inspired by so many people in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, generosity, and constant work to make this world a more inclusive and empathetic place. I’m afraid of the intrusiveness, hate, jokes and violence. To all trans people who face harassment, self-hatred, abuse, and threats of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do my best to change this world for the better . I like being trans. And I love being queer. And the more true to myself and the more I embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I flourish. ”

A poignant message that has gone viral. Messages of support from many stars and personalities, including the Canadian Prime Minister as well as Searchlight Pictures (the studio that produced Juno), have subsequently multiplied on social networks. Elliot Page has also gained support from Netflix, which broadcasts Umbrella Academy. The platform will change the actor’s name to credits and announced to Variety that he will retain his role in the series.
