She played the unforgettable grandmother in the cult series Malcolm. Cloris Leachman passed away at the age of 94 of natural causes.
She is best known for playing Malcolm’s horrible grandmother in the cult series between 2000 and 2006. Cloris Leachman, born in 1926, died Wednesday January 27 at the age of 94 years of natural causes. The American actress had notably won an Oscar in 1972 for her performance in The last session. She then becomes Mel Brooks’ flagship actress and gets roles in her greatest films: Frankenstein Junior (1974), The Big Thrill (1977) and The crazy story of the world (1982). She has been nominated for six years in a row at the Primetime Emmy Awards for her famous role of Ida in Malcolm.
In her 70-year career, the American actress also won a Golden Globe for her role in Phyllis, a sitcom, a BAFTA and has been nominated 20 times for the Emmy Awards which she won nine times.
Messages from her partners on stage have multiplied to pay tribute to the missing actress. Frankie Muniz, the actor who played Malcolm, said: “ She wasn’t afraid to try anything on a set. Not laughing and ruining the grips with her was always extremely difficult. She was also incredibly nice to everyone. “
Bryan Cranston, the father in Malcolm, said: “ I am sad this evening to learn of the disappearance of a legend. Cloris Leachman was Ida, Lou’s mother in Malcolm. Jane and I loved her superb talent and fun spirit. ”
Mel Brooks, the director who had taken her under his wing, also paid tribute to her: ” Cloris was incredibly talented. She could make you laugh or cry in the blink of an eye. It was always a pleasure to work with her. She is irreplaceable and will be sadly missed. ”
