Assembly elections are due in Assam (Assam) next year and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already started preparing for it. To woo the Tea Tribe community, the BJP has made an election promise to erect a huge structure of education in the areas adjacent to the tea gardens. In a meeting of the Tea Tribe Community Unit in Jorhat, the state cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the time has come for the people of this tribe to be proud of being residents of Assam.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘We are going to start the construction work of 119 high school buildings in the tea garden areas from 1 and 2 November. This was a long-standing demand of this tribe and we will fulfill it. The cost of each school will be around 1.5 crores. The state government will spend Rs 300 crore on this project. We want to strengthen the tea tribe.

The Assam government has also decided that students coming from tea garden area will get 10 percent reservation in government colleges of the state. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘It is bad to see that even after 70 years of independence, there are no roads, no high school in the areas connected with tea garden. Women do not have bank accounts. Now account of 7 lakh tea garden workers has been opened under Jan Dhan Yojana.

Let us know that elections for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly can be held in March-April next year. In the 2016 elections, no party got a clear majority. Currently, BJP has 60 MLAs. At the same time, Congress has 23 and AIUDF has 14 MLAs.
